Porlock
Weir is unsurpassed as a base from which to enjoy a huge variety of outdoor
pursuits during your holiday. Walk, ride or cycle the nearby trails around
Exmoor’s beautiful landscape, participate in the regular shoots organised by
the National Trust, go fishing either in the sea off the weir or in one of many
local reservoirs or rivers, or play golf at one of the moor’s courses that are
just a pleasant short drive away. Alternatively choose to embark on one of a
number of Exmoor safari adventures, or for those that prefer to spend their
time under cover, explore a host of local museums and exhibitions.
Furthermore,
since becoming Europe's first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in
2011, why not try some top-quality star-gazing by booking a Dark Skies break at
Porlock Visitor Centre (see “walking” section for contact information), where
the staff can point out the most appropriate venues. Any time of year a clear
night can provide ideal gazing conditions, so either schedule your holiday
around the longer nights given during darker months such as March and April, or
the late summer/early autumn period when sightings of shooting stars are most
common. Walking, Hiking and Open Gardens Horse Riding and Other Animal Attractions Museums Exmoor Safaris Steam Railways |
